I was good at math at school, and so I just assumed I would have an easy life in finance, and pursued this at university right up until I was invited to a Startup Weekend in the early 2010s. With the confidence of youth, I walked in and delivered a wonderful pitch and won the competition, and this is where my love/hate relationship with entrepreneurship began. I spent the next decade learning first hand just how much an entrepreneur needs to know, just how tough the pressure can be, how lonely and frightening the journey can be… but also what an amazing journey it can be, how many fascinating people you meet along the way, and the unexpected opportunities that you find. After this rollercoaster, I realised that I was actually better at math than I was at being an entrepreneur, so I went back to finance and now I do my best to use my experience and the tools I have to support other entrepreneurs.
